Expressing appreciation over the appointment, Abdul Rahim, 58, the son of a fisherman from Kampung Buang Sayang near here, pledged to do his best to uphold the role and fucntions of the LKIM.

"This appointment is very meaningful as it means the government has given a Sabahan an opportunity to lead a federal agency."It has also given me an opportunity to continue the agenda of defending the rights of the fishing community not just in Sabah but the country as a whole," he told Bernama here today.
